Reading Enjoyment

It's been a while since I have been able to sit down and read a book purely for enjoyment.  That is one of my goals for the summer - to read at least one book for enjoyment.  Here are a few that have peaked my interest because someone suggested it, talked about it, or was on a book list.

Lesson Plan

I have attached a lesson plan that one of my classmates and I created for our Special Education Methods class.  It does have a rubric and other documents we would use in our lesson.  I can not attach a document (at least not that I can figure out) so I am going to upload the document to see how this works. Ice Breakers

One favorite ice breaker I have seen used in a variety of settings is the Question Beach Ball.  Basically blow up a beach ball and use a Sharpie to write questions for students, children, or youth.  The object of the game is to throw it to a person (and that may be a statement on the ball - who to throw it to next) a nd the person has to answer.  This can take a lot of time or not, can be done in a series of meeting s, and in any size group.  They key is to find the right questions for the age group of students.  Here is a link to one site that has questions: http://www.residentassistant.com/games/icebreakers/beachball.htm

My Teaching Philosophy

           There are many aspects of teaching and they are important to the teachers who hold them near to their beliefs.   Creating a safe and nurturing environment, instructing relevant material, and building relationships with students, families, community people, and fellow faculty are some of the aspects I feel strongly about with regards to teaching.   I began working in one of the most severe behavior and disability classrooms in my school district in February 2007.   One of the biggest reasons why I was hired was when I viewed the classroom one of the little girls who has Rett Syndrome grabbed my hand and wanted me to play with her.   So I did, drool and all!   So began my journey of discernment about where life was taking me.   Two years later I began the process of getting back into school after leaving in 1990.   I strongly feel teaching is a calling and my calling came later in my life....
